What the Americans call football, is related to what the British call rugby.
The interpretation of speed and passing are the same but the rules for tackling departs strong. The American rules allowes a player to use raw force, likely face a opposite player in a "face-to-face" collision in a full sprint. In consequence the American players are padded and protected from top to toe.
