Rockne was the prime mover and shaker in the founding of a musical show called "the Monogram Absurdities". The show was put by the Notre Dame Monogram Club 1913 and Rockne directed the dances, wrote most of the lines and staged the specialities.

Even after heīd became Harperīs assistant, Rockne continued to stage all itīs numbers, choreograph itīs dances and write most of the lines and gags. He attended every rehearsal, and was as concerned about an overall smooth performance as he was in tuning up a football play. He took often part in the show himself too.

One time some students who were helping him write the script, told him they were going to put in some lines sniping at him. If he didnīt like the material, they would take it out again. Rockne insisted they leaved the stuff in. When he later looked at the finished script, he let go with a loud cackling laughter and told the student gag writers they they werenīt gratuious cracks at all, but the absolute truth.

Rockne had also much to do with the direction and script of the football scenes in the successful musical comedy "Good News". This show was on in 1927.
