Unfortunately the period around World War I, to which Gipp belonged, makes it difficult to confirm the legend. There was no television and the radio was just then coming into it´s own. Movie cameras were extant, but nobody seemed to have recorded Gipp on film. In fact, still photos of him are a rarity; Gipp disliked posing for a portrait.
Much worse than the absense of either films or photos, is the lack of even one interview by either a newspaper or leading magazine. Evidently no reporter had the forsight to trap Gipp and record what surely would have been a priceless interview.
Therefore, information about the myth George Gipp are from his own personal observations, comments and recollections. And articles, pictures and stories are from local newspapers and the sketchy observations of friends, teammates and casual acquaintances.
